November 1, 2024

The third edition of the Drawing Festival, founded by Vera Michalski and Frédéric Pajak, honors Jean-Michel Folon. From April 12 to May 11, 2025, the Festival presents around forty artists (Lou Cohen, Jean-Baptiste Corot, Gundrun Von Maltzan, Annette Messager, Alan Vega, Bram van Velde, Nadia Léger, Francoise Perronno, Ossip Zadkine, etc.), new exhibitions (humorous drawing, culinary art, Japanese prints, a selection of drawings from the Antoine de Galbert collection) in several emblematic locations in Arles (Museon Arlaten, Palais de l’Archevêché, Église Sainte-Anne, Lee Ufan, Espace Van Gogh, Musée Réattu, Musée Départemental Arles Antique, Fondation Manuel Rivera-Ortiz, etc.). As part of the Drawing Festival, I had the pleasure of providing artistic direction for the educational project "The Children of Arles Exhibit," on display until May 11, 2025, at the Espace Van Gogh, with the support of the City of Arles and the Géant des Beaux-Arts. This project was made possible thanks to the participation of the artists, teachers, and set designer Emmanuel Charles, whom I would like to thank warmly. The artists: Jean-Philippe Tacher, Léna Théodore, Philippe Goron, Diane Hymans, Elizabeth Guyon, Aude Ambroggi, Judith Espinas, Serge Croibier, Francis Volken, Albane Gayet. The teachers: Laurence Arnaudet, Manea Gion, Sophie Kerespers, Julien Mateo, Marie Poussardin, Céline Clavel, Amanda Garcia, Mathieu Roux, Séverine Le Coq, Isabelle Faure. A booklet presenting the ten workshops was risograph printed by Atelier du Palais. The publication was directed by Julie Bouvard and myself, the graphic design by L’Autoroute du Soleil, the cover art by Nelly Blumenthal, and the photographs by Émilie and Julien. Alongside Frédéric Pajak and Pavel Schmidt, we also curated two exhibitions for the Festival: at the Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation, featuring the artists Olivia Clavel, Lou Cohen, Alan Vega, Captain Cavern, and Fabien Verschaere; and at the Chapelle du Méjan, the exhibition “The Young Guard in the Spotlight,” in partnership with: L’École des Arts Décoratifs – PSL, L’École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre (Brussels), and the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
